After Sung-Bin Yun won the gold medal at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the interest in skeleton has increased in Korea. In order to shorten the completion record and to secure the athlete’s safety, it needs to minimize not only the drag but also lift and pitch moment acting on the skeleton sledge with the athlete. In this study, the aerodynamic characteristics of the skeleton sledge including the rider was analyzed using 2 dimensional CFD simulations with changing riding posture, such as angles of head and ankle, the shape of helmet and advancing speed. From the simulations results, it was found that upward head-angle and upward ankle angle are good to ensure stability, whereas the downward head angle has advantage in speed.
